Great motivators for North American missionaries to leave their home country for foreign lands. It was clarion calls to missions such as these that inspired my wife and I in 1976 to join UFM International, quit my job, sell our home and take the kids to Brazil. We haven't regretted a minute of it!
But wait! Exactly what were our Lord Jesus Christ's last words? After 4o days of being seen in His body and ten days before Pentecost, Jesus told the disciples to WAIT not GO! Acts 1:4 "And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me."
It was not the disciples who went into the world but the world that came to them on the day of Pentecost and heard, by the power of the Holy Spirit, the Gospel of Jesus Christ. When they left for their home countries they took that Gospel with them.
Chris and I minister with Source of Light Ministries International. 90% of our missionaries are nationals. What are their "outgoing costs?" 0 dollars! What is their language learning time? 0 days! If they have difficulties or illness or poor suport do they come home? No, they're already home! Give this some thought. Also, Source of Light does not support national missinaries financially. They raise their own support with occasional help from SLM in projects and special needs. The critical facator is not the messenger who goes but the message that he carries and that can often be transmitted in alternative means. Trust God and His Holy Spirit as the disciples did at Pentecost.
